SPICED SANGRIA WITH CITRUS

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

The holiday season is behind us but that doesn't mean we have to stop the party!  In anticipation of many cold nights in, here is a simple, quick, and delicious recipe for a sangria inspired by mulling spices.  I served some to the stylish ladies at the Planet Blue Holiday Party.  Check out the video below to check it out!

Happy New Year! xoxoxo

Spiced Sangria with Citrus:

Spiced Syrup:
4 orange peels (1/2 inch wide)
2 lemon peels (1/2 inch wide)
1 star anise
2 cloves
2 cinnamon sticks
1 cup sugar
1 cup water

Simmer for 5 minutes after sugar has dissolved.  Turn off heat and steep for 30 minutes.  Strain and cool.

3 bottles of juicy red wine (like a rioja or grenache)
3/4 cup spiced syrup
1 orange, thinly sliced
1 lemon, thinly sliced
2 apples, sliced
cinnamon sticks for garnish

Mix everything together in a large pitcher with ice, serve.

I may not be too good at higher math problems but your recipes are as easy as (x – 3)(x – 4) = 0.
Good stuff!
